NCAA Division I Point
Guard Transfers to LeTourneau University
LONGVIEW, TEXAS-Not since the 1996-1997 season, the first of
LeTourneau University's two National Christian College
Athletic Association Championships, has a Division I
transfer suited up for the LadyJackets.
Brandi Lambert, a point guard for NCAA Division I Lamar
University in Beaumont, Texas the past two seasons and a
former Clear Creek High School standout, has committed to
play basketball at LeTourneau University next season.
Lambert becomes the first Division I transfer since Tracey
(Pepper) Stellato, now Panola Junior College's head coach,
transferred back to East Texas from the University of
Texas-San Antonio and eventually earned National Player of
the Year honors.
"Brandi was on our 'wish list' two years ago when she was in
high school", said Bechler. "We were happy for her but
disappointed for us when she signed a National Letter of
Intent. However, we are extremely excited that she will be
transferring. She is an extremely hard worker, who has a lot
of untapped potential. She can be explosive offensive and
defensively. She also has a great personality. I really look
forward to coaching her these next two years."
Lambert, a 5'6 point guard originally from Clear Creek High
School in League City, TX, was on full-scholarship for two
seasons with Lamar University.
As a high school senior, Lambert was voted the team's MVP
and earned First-Team All-District 24-5A honors. She
averaged 13.4 points and 4.3 assists per game for head coach
Peggy Whittley's Lady Wildcats' squad. Lambert also was
named First-Team All-Galveston County while leading the Lady
Wildcats to a 28-8 record and a regional semifinal berth as
a junior.
During her freshman season at Lamar, she played in all 26
games, starting one, for the Lady Cardinals. She scored a
career-high of five points versus Big East Conference foe
Providence College in December of 2002. Lambert ended her
freshman season collecting the eighth most amounts of
minutes on the team. This past season, as a sophomore,
Lambert saw action in 17 games for the Lady Cardinals.
Lambert played for Howard Randle's nationally-renowned
Houston Elite AAU team.
Lambert plans on studying Kinesiology & Education while at
LeTourneau University.
