Madison's "K-Kay" Inks With Big 12
University of Missouri
Heavily recruited post from James Madison High School in Houston, Texas
Kaya "K-Kay" Pickens inked with Big
12 conference Missouri University Tigers this week.
She chose Mizzou over Colorado University, North Dakota, Boise, Tulane,
Wake Forest, New Mexico, University of New Orleans and a host of other
schools across the country.
The Marlins head coach Anthony Fields says, "K-Kay is very athletic
...and because she's so athletic she'll create a problem for kids her
size because most kids her size are not as athletic."
"It wasn't a tough decision for me," says the normally quite Lady Marlin
Kaya "K-Kay" Pickens. I've known for some time now that she liked Mizzou.
I'm excited about Coach Cindy Stein, who was involved in the entire
recruiting process from day-one. I clicked right-away with the lady
Tigers basketball team. I spent time visiting the academic programs. A
top priority for me and my mom was the academics and Missouri University
touts the highest graduation rate in the conference.
I'm the kind of athlete who will motivate my team and be very
competitive." I'll fit in perfectly with the outstanding team that Coach
Stein already has in place. I can't wait to get back and start working
with the team and excellent staff," stated a confident K-Kay, now of
Mizzou University.
K-Kay lettered all four years at Madison in two sports, basketball (post
and forward) and volleyball (middleblocker). She lettered three years in
track and field where she competed in the hurdles and long jump. She was
equally recruited by coaches looking to add her to their volleyball
rosters. She received the "Athlete of the Year" honors recently at her
high school prom, held at the Doubletree Hotel.
This year honors include First Team All District in basketball and
volleyball. She made the first team in volleyball three consecutive
years and second team for basketball last year.
Off the court, K-Kay likes choreographing dance steps, designing her own
clothing, role-playing (extracted from different poems and books),
modeling and movies.
She has chosen as a major, business with emphasis in marketing.
K-Kay plays with the Houston Elite coached by Howard Randle in Houston,
Texas.
She's signing during late signing period because she elected to work as
a ride operator at Six Flags Astroworld last summer and helped out in
her mom's Candy Shop.
