Houston Elite White takes Cobras Classic Crown
[June 3-5, 2005]
|
Houston
Elite White took part in the Houston Cobras classic over the weekend. They opened up with an easy Victory over the Woodlands Untouchables. In the semifinal round Elite
White squared off against the Houstonians. There were several lead changes in the first half, but Brittney Hudson finally asserted herself as an offensive threat and White
stretched their lead and never looked back. White would have to wait for the winner of the loser bracket to play in the championship game the next day. They were sure it was going to be the Houstonians again. And the Houstonians it was. With revenge on their minds from the day before, the Houstonians came out with a
vengeance. They jumped on Elite White early and often. They took advantage of every opportunity that presented itself. This tested Elite White's mettle. With 6 minutes to play, the Houstonians held a 12 point lead and they looked as though they would not relinquish that lead. Having been in this position before, Coach Howard informed his team to not quit! "I just told them that is game is about
possessions now, not points". Elite trusted their coached and senior Nakazi Glover who all too familiar with this situation and they went out and took the lead with 1:30 left in the game. Glover
exploded in the second half with 19 points. White pulled out a 66-60 victory over the Houstonians as they closed the last 6 minutes on a 24-6 run. This marked their first tournament championship of the season!
