Six members of the Fairfield Lady Eagles
volleyball team earn All-District honors this season after leading the
squad to a Class AAA bi-district championship title.
The Lady Eagles posted a 7-3 mark in District 19-AAA matches, tying for
second place with the Groesbeck Lady Goats.
Fairfield defeated the Crockett Lady Bulldogs at the bi-district playoff
game, then fell to the China Spring Lady Cougars at area last week.
Picked by district coaches as co-MVP this season is senior outside
hitter Choicetta McMillian, while senior setter Kati Linton is a first
team selection.
Twice before Miss McMillian has been named one of the best spikers in
the district, as “Newcomer of the Year” as a freshman and to the first
team as a junior. She missed her sophomore season with an injury.
Also a standout on the basketball court, Miss McMillian has earned three
letters and three All-District selections in that sport, with one year
remaining to play.
Two weeks ago she was voted Fairfield homecoming queen.
Sharing the MVP honor with Miss McMillian is Mexia junior player Krystal
Beachum.
Eight members of the Lady Eagles squad earned Academic All-District
honors. They are: Kayse Kirgan, Sarah Linton, Mandy Chavers, Rikki
Wooley, Kati Linton, Choicetta McMillian, Caitlin Neal and Shelby
Bayless.
Coach of the year is Levon Barker of Mexia.
All-District selections for the 2007 season are:
Co-MVP—Choicetta McMillian, senior, Fairfield, and Krystal Beachum,
junior, Mexia.
